Abstract
The stochastic process appearing at the output of a digital encoder is investigated. Based upon the statistics of the code being employed, a systematic procedure is developed by means of which the average power spectral density of the process can be determined. The method is readily programmed on the digital computer, facilitating the calculation of the spectral densities for large numbers of codes. As an example of its use, the procedure is applied in the case of a specific multi-alphabet, multi-level code. Keywords
