Abstract
Gastric mucus from 20 surgical mucosa specimens, extracted at pH 8.0, showed 4 proteases in pepsinogen and pepsin form, 5 carboxylesterases, 5 acid phosphatases and several other protein fractions separated by electrophoretic analysis. With horse antisera against serum and plasma, several serum proteins could be traced in the mucus extract. Absorbed hare antimucus sera showed 10 specific antigens originating mostly from gastric mucosa. 3 of which were identified as pepsinogens and another as a fraction binding vitamin B12 and having esterase properties. Mucosal extracts from cancerous stomachs showed a predominant decrease in the specific antigen and striking quantitative changes of the enzymes separated by electrophore-sis.Keywords
