Abstract
Volatile tetrakis(fluorophosphine) complexes of zerovalent platinum, PtL4[L = PF3, CF3PF2, and (CF3)2PF] have been synthesised by the direct reaction between platinum(II) chloride and the fluorophosphine at 60°. Pt[(CF3)2PF]4 has also been obtained from fluorobistrifluoromethylphosphine and potassium tetrachloroplatinite. In contrast to the analogous triphenylphosphine–platinum complexes the trifluoromethylfluorophosphine complexes do not react with alkyl halides, hydrogen chloride, ethylene, or carbon disulphide. However, Pt(CF3PF2)4 readily reacts with tertiary phosphines, affording the disubstituted complexes Pt(CF3PF2)2(PhnPMe3–n)2(n= 1–3).Keywords
