Nuclear Trafficking

Abstract
The transcription factor SREBP-2 is a crucial component in cholesterol metabolism, switching on genes that regulate the synthesis and uptake of cholesterol. To activate these genes, SREBP-2 must be transported from the cytoplasm into the nucleus. In his Perspective, Stewart discusses an analysis of the crystal structure of SREBP-2 bound to its nuclear transport protein, importin-, which sheds new light on SREBP-2 nuclear transport ( Lee et al.).
