Pond Owner Utilization of Management Recommendations Made by State Fishery Personnel

Abstract
A mail questionnaire was used to survey 53 pond owners who participated in pond management seminars and 217 pond owners who requested on-site consultation visits during 1986. The objective was to determine the percentage of seminar participants and pond owners who implemented pond management recommendations provided by North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) personnel and to compare implementation rates between groups to determine which method (seminars versus on-site visits) was more effective. Response rates were 84% for the seminar group and 88% for the on-site group. Implementation rates were 98% for the seminar group versus 93% for the on-site group. Implementation rates were not significantly different between groups. Cost comparisons for seminars ($40/participant) versus on-site consultation visits ($96/participant) revealed seminars were a more effective means for disseminating pond management information to pond owners.
