Abstract
Cadmium sulphate (3CdSO4.8H2O) was given by gastric instillation to 3 groups of rats. The group most heavily exposed received 0·8 mg 3CdSO4.8H2O per kg body weight each week (0·35 mg Cd/kg body wt.) for 2 yr. No macroscopic or microscopic change attributable to treatment was seen in the prostate or any other organ or tissue. The rats used in the experiment were of the CB hooded strain. Males of this strain develop interstitial-cell (Leydig-cell) rumours spontaneously in high incidence (e.g. 80 per cent). Neither regular palpation of the testes nor treatment with cadmium sulphate significantly affected the risk of development of tumours of this kind. Keywords
