Abstract
Two strains of Str. lactis failed to grow in a medium containing amino acids, thiamin, nicotinic acid, pantothenate, pyridoxin, riboflavin, biotin, folic acid, inosi-tol, 2-methyl-l-4-naphthoquinone, choline, p-amino benzoic acid, adenine, guanine, xanthine, uracil and a salt mixture. Addition of a small amt. of yeast extract promoted growth. The essential factor was organic in nature, not precipitated by the salts of heavy metals, not adsorbed by activated charcoal, readily soluble in water but not in ethyl or methyl alcohol, acetone or diethyl ether. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
