Abstract
To the Editor: It does not seem to us that the otherwise excellent review of breast cancer by Henderson and Canellos1 should be allowed to pass without comment on their conclusion that local excision with irradiation is an acceptable alternative to a more radical operation for many patients with breast cancer.This view is rejected by a large percentage of surgeons, particularly by those with the greatest experience.
