Enhancement of the dielectric constant of lead oxide by silver particles

Abstract
The spectral reflectivity of lead oxide on a lead substrate differs substantially from that containing fine silver particles. The latter shows interference patterns in the visible and near-infrared region. This implies that the presence of metal particles increases the dielectric constant of lead oxide markedly. The results are analyzed by the Maxwell-Garnett theory and a reasonable agreement is found. Possible applications for such composite oxides are discussed.
