Abstract
Bloods of 42 parents of 29 patients with sickle-cell anemia were tested for sickling trait by drawing blood from finger tip 3-5 min. after a tourniquet had been applied to finger, sealing blood under a cover slip with methylene blue or janus green, and observing at intervals for up to 72 hrs. Under these conditions blood of every parent showed sickling, although none had sickle-cell anemia. This was taken as evidence that sickling is due to a single gene which, when present in the homozygous condition, causes sickle-cell anemia. Keywords
