Abstract
Extracts from notes made on conversation with this observer by Joseph Grinnell. Natives (in 1885) clubbed the otters to death. Young are born on the rocks or at sea. They cannot swim, but cry like a baby if dropped by the mother. Littlejohn believed the young may now be born at sea as mothers harassed so when they went into the rocks. This was in Alaska. Hunting for otter in California took place around Big Sur, Santa Barbara Island, and Pigeon Point. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
