Abstract
The most common nutritional disorders in the United States are overweight and obesity. This review discusses the treatment of overweight and obesity as chronic conditions that require a combined approach of behavioral therapy, exercise, dietary changes, and — in certain cases — medication. The authors consider the three classes of weight-loss drugs: those that suppress appetite, those that decrease nutrient absorption, and those that increase energy expenditure. Currently available and soon-to-be-released drugs are discussed. Keywords
