Abstract
It is shown that the effect of the inclusion of virtual phonon processes accompanying a real single-phonon emission or absorption in calculating the accommodation coefficient for noble-gas atoms impinging on a metal surface is negligible. This result contradicts the conclusion of a recently published calculation. Keywords
