Cerebral Vasospasm in Eclampsia: Transcranial Doppler Ultrasound Findings

Abstract
Transcranial Doppler ultrasound was used to evaluate the middle cerebral artery blood flow-velocity in an eclamptic patient. An elevated middle cerebral artery pulsatility index, compatible with severe vasospasm, was demonstrated. Computed tomography of the brain showed regions of hypoden-sity. Normalization of the Doppler waveform correlated with clinical and tomographic improvement.
