Abstract
The Dialogue's Final Report contains consensus recommendations regarding health claims on food labels and other means of communicating nutrition information to consumers. The recommendations were developed and endorsed by approximately 60 individuals from food companies, consumer advocacy groups, health promotion organizations, academia, and federal and state government agencies. The final report explains and provides recommendations for improving implementation of the Nutrition Labeling Education Act (NLEA), which among other provisions, includes a process for review and authorization of health claims for use on food labels. Dialogue participants established three goals for the Keystone National Policy Dialogue on Food, Nutrition and Health, with the overall intent of benefiting public health.
