Neutrino-induced heavy-lepton pair production at high energies and multimuon events

Abstract
Total cross sections for the process νμ+Fe56μ+L++L0+Fe56 have been calculated in conventional VA weak-interaction theory. For multi-GeV/c2 mass assignments for L+, the cross section is ∼106 of the observed rate of charged-current events production by neutrinos at Fermilab. However, for mL+=mμ+, and mL01 to 2 GeV/c2, the cross section is ∼101 of the reported trimuon rates. Allowing L0 to decay into muons + anything, we find that the leptons in the final states may be very energetic.
