Abstract
The problem of analysing data near the critical temperature is investigated using simulated data (with particular reference to specific heat data). Attention is paid to the fitting problems posed by the many adjustable parameters inherent to theoretically predicted models, and to the statistical significance of resulting parameters. Consideration is given to non-ideal or rounding behaviour near T c and the possibilities of quantitatively comparing competing models is discussed. Keywords
