Spectroscopic study of Michler's ketone. Part 2.—Luminescence

Abstract
The excitation wavelength dependence of the luminescence of Michler's ketone is investigated. Decay curves of the phosphorescence in ethanol are analysed and it is found that two independent excitation processes are present. Both the excitation spectra and their polarization are determined. The close similarity of the spectra indicates that they belong to molecular species having only slightly different electronic structure. These are interpreted as two conformations of Michler's ketone and their nature is discussed.
