Abstract
15 haemophiliacs including one patient with von Willebrand’s disease and 8 multiple-transfused patients (7 homozygous sickle cell anaemia, 1 refractory anaemia in pregnancy) were examined by the immuno-electro-osmodiffusion (IOD) method for the prevalence of Australia antigen (Au(1)) and antibody among them. No Au(1) antigen or antibody was detected among the haemophiliacs.A 21/2-year-old child with sickle cell anaemia had Au(1) antibody. Possible explanations for these results are givenKeywords
