Extraction of $α_{s}$ from radiative $Υ (1 S)$ decays

Abstract

We improve on a recent determination of

α_{s}

from

Γ (Υ (1 S) \to γ X) / Γ (Υ (1 S) \to X)

with CLEO data by taking into account color octet contributions and avoiding any model dependence in the extraction. We obtain

α_{s} (M_{Υ (1 S)}) = {0.184}_{- 0.014}^{+ 0.015}

, which corresponds to

α_{s} (M_{Z}) = {0.119}_{- 0.005}^{+ 0.006}

.
