Abstract
The stability of an axisymmetric jet with parabolic velocity profile surrounded by fluid at rest is investigated. The flow is found to be stable to axisymmetric disturbances but unstable to non-axisymmetric disturbances. The critical Reynolds number is calculated to be 32.8 and 171 for n =1 and 2 respectively where n is the azimuthal wave-number of the non-axisymmetric disturbance. Keywords
