Abstract
Foreword—The Design Practice Committee has developed this method for determining an Equivalent Sphere Illumination (ESI) rating for a room as a meaningful ESI specification and evaluation system when task locations are unknown. The procedure is relatively simple to use. Its basis and development is more complex, but should be understood by those with some basic knowledge in statistical methods and an understanding of the ESI concept. This specification method should provide a reasonable assurance of ESI values at tasks when finally located. Keywords
