Developmental Norms for the Acoustic Reflex

Abstract
Acoustic reflexes were observed in 45 infants between the ages of 12 and 36 weeks. As age increased, smaller ranges of signal levels were needed to elicit the reflex and less intensity was required, but a noise stimulus did not show age-related changes. Stimulus frequency was not a source of variation of response. The reflex arc has undergone maturation by 12 weeks of age and continues to mature to 36 weeks. Les réflexes acoustiques ont été étudiés chez 45 enfants aˇgés de 12 à 36 semaines. Plus l'aˇge augmentait, plus les intensités nécessaires pour éliciter un réflexe étaient faibles et plus leur variation diminuait, mais avec les stimulations par bruit on n'a pas observé de modifications liées à l'aˇge. La fréquence du stimulus n'était pas non plus une source de variation des reponses. L'arc réflexe a muri à l'aˇge de 12 semaines et continue sa maturation jusqu'à 36 semaines.Keywords
