Standardized Method to Measure the Fixation Quality of a Pin: Theoretical Derivation and Preliminary Results

Abstract
A vibration method to measure the quality of anchorage of an external fixation pin is proposed. Attention is paid to the interpretation and standardization of the measurements to obtain reliable results. The preliminary results of a series of in viva measurements on tibial and radial pins are presented. The progress with time and correlation with the maximum torque moment at the time of retrieval are shown.
