Abstract
Emissions due to N2+(B 2Σu+), N2(C 3Πu), and N2(C′ 3Πu) molecules as well as O(1S) and N(2P) atoms were observed in the yellow nitrogen afterglow. The effects of pressure, transit time between the discharge and the observation vessel, temperature, N‐atom concentration, added quencher, and impurities on the emission properties of these species were also studied. Possible excitation mechanisms for these emission systems are discussed. Keywords
