Abstract
Eyelid responses were photographically recorded under 3 different degrees of pre-stimulus illuminatipn and 4 different degrees of stimulus (light) intensity. Recordings were made for 60 subjects at regular intervals during a period of visual fixation. A consistent response differing from the primary reflex to light was observed to have a latency of 120-240 msec. The frequency of these B-responses was influenced by stimulus intensity and increased during the period of fixation. The degree of increase (sensitization) was a function of stimulus intensity. The findings suggest that this B -response of the eyelid to light may play an important role in the formation of conditioned eyelid responses.
