Abstract
An infant with the clinical syndrome of pyridoxine dependency had meconium staining and respiratory distress at birth despite an apparently uncomplicated pregnancy and delivery. Hyperirritability, periods of apnea, and severe convulsions began at 2 hr. of age. The convulsions were not controllable with standard anticonvulsant therapy but were controlled instantaneously with pyridoxine hydrochloride injection administered intramuscularly. A sibling had died previously after prolonged convulsions in the neonatal period. It is suggested that all neonates with convulsions receive pyridoxine parenterally as a diagnostic test. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
