An Evaluation of Various Tympanoplasty Techniques

Abstract
The purpose of this report is to evaluate the various techniques that have been recommended for tympanoplasty surgery in the treatment of chronic otitis media. It is not our intention to describe in detail each surgical technique advocated for tympanoplasty, for this has already been well documented in the otologic literature. Rather, our objective is to present a report of a consecutive series of patients requiring tympanoplasty over an 18-month period. Various tympanoplastic techniques or combinations thereof were used in this series. The analysis of results and evaluations of these techniques in the light of our experience will be discussed. The senior author became familiar with the techniques of tympanoplasty described by Wullstein and Zöllner1in the summer of 1959.
