Single-Specimen J-Resistance Curve Evaluations Using the Direct-Current Electric Potential Method and a Computerized Data Acquisition System

Abstract
This paper describes the direct-current electric potential method of monitoring crack initiation and stable ductile crack growth. In many aspects this method is simpler than the unloading compliance method, and it can be readily incorporated into a computerized data acquistion system. Numerous examples using this technique and a computerized data acquisition system are given for bend and compact specimens, different loading rates, and different materials (Type 304 stainless steel, Zircaloy, and carbon steels).
