Link adaptation to improve coverage in the TETRA private mobile radio system

Abstract
Link adaptation is a system whereby the channel coding is altered depending on the channel quality. It can be used to extend the coverage of mobile systems by using more robust coding in poor conditions. This paper examines the application of link adaptation to speech transmission in TETRA, and compares the technique to quasisynchronous operation which is also proposed for TETRA range extension.
