INFLATION-DRIVEN STRING INSTABILITIES: TOWARDS A SYSTEMATIC LARGE-R EXPANSION

Abstract
We present the general structure of a large-R expansion for the evolution of classical strings during a phase of fast inflation together with explicit results for several subleading terms. We are thus able to check the consistency of the expansion and to describe the approach to asymptopia both in terms of string shapes and of their equation of state.
