A successful attempt at producing the experience of yellow by stimulating one retina with red light and the other with green light is reported. The method of S. Hecht (Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., 1928) was used but modified to test the possibility of errors in his technic. New filters manufactured by the Farrand Optical Co., Bronx, N. Y. produced a "red" and a "green" that had no overlap and neither of which extended into the yellow region. Hecht''s results were confirmed over a wide range of stimulus intensities and a wide range of observation durations. The "binocular yellow" compared favorably with a spectral yellow in saturation when qualitative comparisons were made directly with a nearly monochromatic sample produced by a 3d Farrand filter.
