Abstract
A method is presented for obtaining the volume derivatives of the phonon frequencies throughout the Brillouin zone for metals having cubic symmetry. The method is based on the interatomic force constants from the two nearest neighbours and contains one free parameter. The resulting volume derivatives are used to calculate the Gruneisen parameters and the constant-volume temperature derivatives of the phonon frequencies. The calculated values are in good agreement with the recent neutron-scattering measurements for rubidium. Keywords
