Abstract
Recent correspondence in this journal (Parfitt & Lee 1979) has highlighted the need to define the pools and losses of phosphate from grazed pasture in New Zealand. Middleton & Smith (1978) have drawn up balance sheets for phosphate and other nutrients in a pastoral ecosystem at a climax, and the model is extended here to include important soil components. Keywords
