Abstract
Loss of extensor function at the knee joint can be the result of rupture of the quadriceps mechanism at the quadriceps tendon, patella, patellar tendon or tibial tubercle. The mechanism of the injury is the same at each location: quadriceps contraction accompanying fixed flexion of the knee. Anatomy of the quadriceps mechanism is described and 4 patients illustrating the typical clinical and radiographic findings in quadricepts injuries are presented. Factors affecting the site of injury are discussed. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
