Abstract
This project was undertaken in an attempt to gain some insight into the photochemical weathering of a fuel oil. A solution of residual No. 6 oil was exposed to ultraviolet light, and the resulting reactions were monitored using ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The data obtained were compared to various kinetic models, i.e., first order, second order, and second order auto-catalytic. Although all three models agreed well with the data, statistical analysis indicates that the auto-catalytic model is the most probable. Keywords
