Abstract
A movement aimed at reforming engineering school curricula, called the Synthesis Coalition, is discussed. The coalition is introducing design projects at the outset and weaving math, basic science, engineering science, multidisciplinary, and humanities courses throughout the four-year program. In all, the coalition has some 70 projects in various stages of preparation. Several of them are aimed at attracting a steady supply of qualified degree candidates by reaching out to precollege students. Other modules are aimed at teaching teachers-preparing them for reformed curricula and high-tech classrooms.
