Abstract
The purpose was to investigate the association between acute and chronic pyelonephritis by searching for evidence of persistent asymptomatic infection in the urine of 30 patients previously treated and supposedly cured of acute pyelonephritis. Clean-voided urine specimens were obtained, and quantitative cultures were carried out. The finding of 100,000 or more bacteria per ml was considered to indicate persisting subclinical urinary tract infection in 8 of these cases. Keywords
