Abstract
Pericardial rubs are generally regarded as "to-and-fro," biphasic phenomena. In a search for finer auscultatory discrimination, 50 consecutive patients were studied at the time pericarditis was discovered by three auscultators who were unanimous in 44 cases; phonocardiograms taken for teaching interest in this group confirmed the bedside findings. In each of six cases in which one or more observers dissented, phonocardiograms disclosed the phasic timing of rub components. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
