Abstract
A severe outbreak of leaf devouring caterpillars occurred during the late summer and autumn of 1925 in fields of soy beans in the southern counties of South Carolina. The Otootan variety suffered much more than the other varieties of soy beans. Some other cultivated plants suffered to a less extent. The following lepidopterous species were conspicuous in the outbreak; velvet bean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatilis Hubner; Corn Ear Worm, Heliothis obsoleta Fabricus; Fall Army Worm, Laphygma frugiperda Smith and Abbott; Grass Worm, Goniurus proteus Linnaeus; and Prodenia sp. The losses caused, the plants attacked, and tests for control are discussed in this paper. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
