Abstract
The histology of a leiomyoma of the iris is descr. This growth contained the characteristic myoglial fibers and spindle cells with long cytoplasmic bodies and spindle nuclei. There were, however, 3 features which have not been seen in leiomyomata of other parts of the body: The cells were arranged in a regular pattern of bundles and did not interlace[long dash]the central cells of each bundle lay parallel to one another but the peripheral cells were curved so that their ends became approximated at the opposite poles of the bundle; there was some palisading of the nuclei; and a few of the tumor cells contained pigment. These features are commonly seen in neurofibromata. It is postulated that the growth might be of neuro-ectodermal origin and may have arisen from the dilatator pupillae muscle. Keywords
