Abstract
Pattens of caregiver/resident communications in long-term care facilities an identified, and potential barriers to communication are highlighted through application of the Communication Predicament Model. An alternate model—the Communication Enhancement Model—is presented. This model provides a theoretical foundation for developing opportunities and strategies to enhance communication between caregiver and resident with Alzheimer's disease. A case study illustrates the positive applications of this model in the long-term care facility. Implications for research, policy, and practice are identified. Keywords
