The Negative Inotropic Effect of Adrenergic Beta-receptor Blocking Drugs on Human Heart Muscle

Abstract
Dose-response curves obtained for the negative inotropic effect of three β-adrenergic receptor blocking compounds on human heart muscle closely resemble those obtained when dog heart muscle is used; the negative inotropic effect of Ciba 39,089-Ba on human heart muscle is significantly less than that of propranolol. The depressant effect of propranolol was not abolished by reserpine-pretreatment.
