Abstract
The marine dinoflagellate, Glenoclinium foliaceum Stein, has been shown to contain fucoxanthin, instead of peridinin, as the major xanthophyll. In addition, 2 carotenes-β-carotene and a compound with spectral properties reminiscent of isomerized y-carotene-and 2 xanthophylls-diadinoxanthin and an unidentified compound-were also isolated. These results support an earlier work that indicated the possible presence of fucoxanthin in some members of the Pyrrophyta. Keywords
