Abstract
MONITORING and controlling the spread of human immunodeficiency virus 1 (HIV-1) worldwide1,2 would greatly benefit from a simple, practical method of identifying recently infected persons. Accurate and rapid diagnosis of recent infection also has clinical implications.Keywords
