Abstract
The recent development of the S-matrix adiabatic QED theory of the two-electron highly charged ions is reviewed. The evaluation of the energy levels up to the second-order corrections due to the interaction between the electrons is considered. The applications of this approach to the calculation of transition probabilities, natural linewidth and natural lineshape are also discussed. Keywords
