Steps in the Development of a New Data Entry Device Based upon Two Hand Chord Keyboard

Abstract
Experiments are described with a two hand chord keyboard designed to provide an efficient alternative to the exisiting QWERTY keyboard. The system is shown to enable fast learning, with subjects reaching rates of 30–35 words per minute, after 20 hours of training. The paper describes the design rational of the system, initial results and research steps that have to be taken in order to realize its power.
