Abstract
To the Editor: The report by Gartenberg et al. in the November 16, 1978, issue of the Journal emphasized the association between the use of Elastoplast and cutaneous rhizopus infections. We report here a possible association between Elastoplast use and bacterial infections. During June, 1978, routine surveillance by our nurse epidemiologist detected four patients with five episodes of bacteremia related to total-parenteral-nutrition lines. Criteria for infection were positive cultures from the blood and catheter tip for the same organism without another source for bacteremia.
