A Case Study of HMO Medicare Enrollment

Abstract
Recent enrollees (n = 174) in HMO Medicare coverage were surveyed as a case study of enrollment factors for a single HMO. Enrollees were younger, healthier, and had more education than the general 65 + population. Their major sources of information and advice about the HMO were family and friends. Although satisfied with previous providers, they nrolled in the HMO because of accessibility and coverage. Expectations about HMO care and coverage are very high, raising issues regarding subsequent satisfaction.
