Abstract
The K alpha 1 alpha 2 and K beta 1,3 emission lines were recorded for both constituents of the alloys TiNi, TiCo and TiFe. In TiNi the titanium as well as the nickel lines shifted towards lower energy relative to the pure metals, while in TiCo and TiFe shifts were found only for the titanium lines. Calculations of the shifts of inner lines with a modified Hartree-Fock-Slater program show that a reorganization within each atom can explain these shifts without the necessity of introducing charge transfer in the alloys. The Fermi edge of the Ti K emission band was found to shift towards lower energy relative to the pure titanium metal in TiNi, while in TiFe and TiCo no such shift was found. The Ti K band changes only in width upon alloying with Fe, Co and Ni.Keywords
